Lisbon, Portugal – 12th November 2024 – Iguality, a non-profit organisation offering free mental health care to marginalised communities in Spain, is proud to announce two major milestones at the Web Summit 2024.
Iguality was founded in 2022 to address the significant mental health challenges faced by refugees, LGBTQ+ individuals, victims of domestic violence, and others at risk of social exclusion in Spain. With only 0.6% of Spain’s GDP allocated to mental health services, these communities often face long waiting times and limited access to care, leaving them vulnerable to cycles of poverty and social exclusion.
In response to this urgent need, Iguality has been offering psychosocial care to anyone who doesn’t have access to high-quality mental health services. Supported by a dedicated team of volunteer therapists, our efforts are largely driven by the innovative use of technology and AI, which streamlines operations and minimises administrative burdens, enabling us to focus almost entirely on delivering vital care.
At this year’s Web Summit, where we’re also hosting a Rountable session, we are excited to share that we have achieved two significant milestones:
- First, we have successfully supported over 90 individuals through our free weekly therapy sessions and holistic care services, making a profound impact on many lives. Our efforts have empowered individuals to build confidence and resilience, enabling them to participate in the labour market, access educational opportunities, and be leaders within their community, breaking mental health stigmas.
- Second, we are excited to announce that we have secured our first round of grant funding, which will enable us to expand our impact and reach even more people in 2025 and beyond, made possible by a strong coordination team existing of clinical psychologists, social workers and other mental health experts.
I’d like to invite you to Iguality’s Roundtable at the Web Summit on 13th November at 11:00 AM to learn more about our innovative use of technology and AI in delivering free mental health care. Find more details over here.
On behalf of our team, thank you for your interest in our young but ambitious organisation.
