About Iguality

Iguality is a nonprofit based in Barcelona committed to making mental health care accessible to all—particularly migrants, LGBTQ+ individuals, refugees, and others facing social exclusion. Our work is built on three pillars: Mental Health & Psychosocial Support, Sports & Social Belonging, and Advocacy & Awareness. We aim to create a more inclusive, connected, and mentally healthy society.

Key Responsibilities

Governance & Oversight

  • Participate in quarterly board meetings and the annual General Assembly (mainly online, potentially once per year in-person in Barcelona).
  • Review and approve strategic plans, annual financial reports (Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet), and key organizational decisions.
  • Sign official meeting minutes and legal documents when required.
  • Ensure organizational alignment with Iguality’s mission and legal obligations.

Strategic Support

  • Offer insight and feedback on strategic and operational plans and decisions.
  • Support the development and evaluation of programs and initiatives.
  • Participate in occasional feedback sessions, brainstorms, or team activities.

Organizational Ambassadorship

  • Represent Iguality at relevant events or in your professional network.
  • Promote the organization’s work and values through word of mouth, social media, or other platforms.
  • Stay up to date with Iguality’s work (e.g., by following social media, reading newsletters, etc.).

Optional (based on interest and availability)

  • Contribute to fundraising and outreach efforts.
  • Offer support with administrative, legal, financial, or safeguarding matters.
  • Provide ad hoc advice based on your area of expertise.

What We’re Looking For

  • Willing to dedicate approximately 2–3 hours/month.
  • Passionate about mental health, social justice and inclusion.
  • Constructive, team-oriented, and respectful in dialogue.
  • Background in one or more relevant areas (e.g., psychology, law, social work, migration, nonprofit leadership, finance, etc.)
  • English is essential; Spanish is a plus.

What We Offer

  • An opportunity to make a real impact in mental health and inclusion.
  • A values-based, purpose-driven environment.
  • A recommendation letter upon request after 6 months of active participation.
  • Meals during in-person board meetings and team events.
  • Reimbursement of any reasonable costs made in the execution of the role.

In accordance with Iguality’s statutes and the legal framework set out by Spain’s Organic Law 1/2002 (regulating the right of association) and Law 49/2002 on patronage, all board positions are voluntary and unpaid.

Legal and Ethical Commitment

Board members commit to:

  • The Duty of Care (acting prudently and responsibly),
  • The Duty of Loyalty (acting in the best interest of the organization),
  • The Duty of Obedience (ensuring legal and ethical compliance).

Board members are not financially liable for decisions made in good faith and are only personally liable in cases of intentional misconduct or negligence.

Interested?

To express interest or nominate someone, please contact us at board@iguality.org. We encourage applications from individuals with lived experience of migration, LGBTQ+ identities or systemic exclusion.
