Open now: Erasmus+ Internship in Sports, Community & Organisational Development

Published on June 26, 2026
Are you a sports lover with a passion for community and social impact? Iguality is looking for an energetic, independent Sports & Community Trainee to join our team in Barcelona. Through this Erasmus+ Traineeship, you'll organise sports activities, build volunteer community, and support our coordination team — all while contributing to a mission that makes a real difference.

Written by Vincent Simon van Grondelle

Iguality is a Barcelona-based nonprofit working at the intersection of mental health, sports, and social belonging. We support people with lived experience of migration, displacement, and social exclusion — through psychosocial support, weekly sports activities, and community-building programmes.

What you'll do

  • Lead and join sports activities — organise and participate in weekly running, hiking, football, and other outdoor activities across Barcelona and wider Catalunya.
  • Build community — organise volunteer meetups, welcome new members, and help create a warm, connected community around our activities.
  • Co-organise events — support the coordination team with event planning and logistics, including the annual Vuelta de Iguality sports event.
  • Hands-on team support — pitch in across coordination tasks: communications, volunteer onboarding, research, and day-to-day operations.

Important note: this is not a traditional office internship. We're a small, grassroots NGO — most coordination happens online and flexibly, with 1–2 days at a co-working space. You'll need to be genuinely independent and proactive to make the most of it.

What we're looking for

  • A genuine love of sports and the outdoors — hiking, running, football, or similar.
  • Warm, energetic personality — you naturally bring people together.
  • Highly independent and proactive — you take initiative without being asked.
  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Master's in a relevant field (psychology, social work, sport science, international development, or similar).
  • English required — Spanish, Catalan, and/or Arabic are a significant advantage.
  • Active Erasmus+ Traineeship grant — applications without confirmed funding cannot be considered.

Practical details

  • Start date: September – November 2026
  • Duration: minimum 6 months, ideally up to 12
  • Hours: minimum 20 hours/week
  • Location: Barcelona (in-person activities + flexible remote)
  • Funding: Erasmus+ Traineeship grant (mandatory)
  • Team: you'll likely join alongside at least one other Erasmus+ trainee

We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds. We actively encourage people with lived experience of migration, displacement, or social exclusion to apply, as well as candidates from underrepresented groups. Diversity of language, culture, and perspective strengthens both our work and the communities we serve.
