Erasmus+ Traineeship/Internship Opportunity for Psychology Master’s Students

Written by Vincent Simon van Grondelle
About Iguality
Iguality is a registered nonprofit in Barcelona, Spain, since 2022. We believe mental health care should be accessible to all — which is why we offer free psychosocial support to individuals and communities facing marginalisation and precarity, such as migrants, refugees, LGBTQ+ individuals and victims of domestic violence.
About the Traineeship
This traineeship/internship offers hands-on clinical experience within our Mental Health Programme, working directly with beneficiaries through individual counselling, alongside our clinical coordination team and volunteer therapists. It suits psychology students completing a Master's placement or recent graduates doing a post-Master's traineeship (both are eligible under Erasmus+ Traineeships).
IMPORTANT: This is not a traditional office-based internship. We are a small, grassroots NGO — much of the coordination work happens online and flexibly, while counselling sessions are partly in-person and partly online. You'll need to be genuinely independent and proactive to get the most out of it.
Key Details
- Start date: September 2026
- Duration: Minimum 4 months — we strongly encourage 6+ months (see caseload section below)
- Location: Barcelona (counselling partly in-person, partly online; coordination largely online)
- Languages: English required — Spanish and/or Arabic a significant advantage
- Funding: Erasmus+ Traineeship grant is mandatory — we do not host unfunded traineeships
- Team: Apart from joining our team, you will most likely be joining alongside at least one other Erasmus+ trainee
Caseload, Supervision & Training
CASELOAD
The number of cases depends on your traineeship period and our patient intake at the time:
- 4-month traineeship: minimum 2 cases guaranteed, likely more
- 6+ months: minimum 4 cases guaranteed, likely more
- If you also speak Spanish: additional cases are guaranteed on top of the above
If your university requires a specific number of clinical hours or cases, you are responsible for calculating whether the traineeship period covers your requirements before applying.
SUPERVISION & TRAINING
We invest seriously in your clinical development — and participation in all supervision and training activities is mandatory. This includes:
- Clinical supervision: at least monthly with our clinical psychologist; bi-weekly if you also speak Spanish
- Practical supervision: at least monthly with our General Coordinator and/or MHPSS Coordinator, covering internship logistics and programme matters
- Trainings: at least bi-monthly, offered by Iguality or external partners
- Team meetings: monthly coordination team meetings and regular activities with our volunteer therapists
