At Iguality, we maintain active insurance policies to protect our volunteers and the participants in our activities. This section outlines the scope of that coverage so you understand your protections and limitations while doing your volunteering.
Coverage for Volunteers
If you suffer an accident while performing your volunteer duties, commuting to or from the center, or traveling for association matters, you are covered under our Accident Policy.
- Medical Assistance: All necessary medical, pharmaceutical, and hospitalization expenses resulting from an accident are covered for up to one year until full recovery. This includes emergency transport. The maximum limit for medical expenses is 1,500 EUR per person.
- Permanent Disability: If an accident results in a permanent disability, you are entitled to financial compensation based on the severity of the injury according to a medical scale. The maximum capital for disability is 15,000 EUR.
- Occupational Illness: Illnesses contracted specifically as a direct result of volunteer activities are covered, provided a medical report confirms the link between the illness and the activity.
Coverage for Participants and Third Parties
Our Civil Liability Policy protects the association, volunteers, and participants against claims made by third parties for bodily injury or material damage caused during our activities.
- Bodily Injury and Damages: If a participant or third party is injured or suffers material damage due to the association’s negligence during an activity, the insurance covers the compensation owed to the victim. The coverage limit is 150,000 EUR per claim, up to 300,000 EUR per year.
- Personal Belongings: Damage to personal items belonging to volunteers or employees is covered only if the items were inside the association’s premises and specifically stored in a locked, controlled space where entry and exit are recorded (e.g., via receipts or logs). The limit for this coverage is 30,000 EUR per claim, with a deductible of 300 EUR. Items valued over 1,500 EUR (such as jewelry or electronics) are excluded, as are cash and vehicles.
- Legal Defense: The policy covers legal fees and court costs if a claim is brought against the association or its volunteers for a covered incident.
Important Considerations
Please be aware of the following conditions to ensure coverage remains valid:
- High-Risk Activities: The policy explicitly excludes accidents occurring during high-risk sports such as mountaineering, rafting, skiing, scuba diving, paintball, or similar activities. If an activity involves these elements, specific prior approval and additional coverage are required.
- Event Size: Activities involving more than 500 participants are not covered unless Iguality has had the chance to notify the insurer in advance and received confirmation of coverage.
- Conduct: Accidents resulting from being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, intentional misconduct, or participation in fights are not covered.
- Deductibles: For civil liability claims, a deductible of 120 EUR applies per incident. This means the first 120 EUR of any damage claim is not covered by the insurance.
- Intern Status: From an insurance perspective, interns are classified as volunteers because they perform the same types of activities. Therefore, interns are entitled to the same coverage limits and protections outlined above for volunteers.
If you are unsure whether a specific activity or situation is covered, please consult the coordination team before proceeding. Your safety and compliance with these guidelines ensure that our insurance remains valid for everyone.
