Even though you might build close, meaningful connections with participants, it’s important to maintain healthy boundaries. As a sports volunteer, you’re not expected (or permitted) to offer therapy, solve people’s problems, or act as a personal support worker.
Here's what respectful boundaries look like:
- You respect each participant’s privacy—avoid prying or asking about personal stories unless they’re freely shared.
- You don’t offer medical or psychological advice—instead, refer people to our website or a team member if they’re looking for support.
- You avoid becoming someone’s only point of contact at Iguality—always help connect them to the broader team or services when needed.
- You treat everyone equally—be mindful not to favor certain individuals or form exclusive dynamics.
These boundaries protect both you and the participants, ensuring a safe and balanced environment.
